Measure these two things first
Before buying anything, grab a tape measure:
- Usable width — not the full desk, but the stretch where your keyboard and mouse actually live. Subtract anything permanently parked on the desk (speakers, a lamp, a PC tower).
- Depth from edge to keyboard — most mats are 25–40 cm deep. If you like your keyboard pushed far back, a 40 cm-deep mat (like a 90×40) keeps your wrists on fabric instead of bare desk.
The three size families
Compact (26×21 to 40×30 cm)

Mid-size (60×30 to 80×30 cm)
The default for most people. An 80×30 mat fits a full-size keyboard and low-DPI mouse swipes without hanging off a 120 cm desk. If you game at low sensitivity, do not go smaller than 70 cm wide — your mouse will run off the edge mid-turn.
Full-width (90×30 and up)
Covers everything including under your monitor stand, which is what gives that clean “finished” look in desk-setup photos. Needs at least 140 cm of clear desk width or the overhang looks accidental.
